COULD YOUR CONDITION BE CAUSED BY A FOOD SENSITIVITY?
The complex way food affects our everyday lives is an emerging area of understanding, and diagnosing the cause of symptoms which seem to be ‘unexplained’ is often extremely difficult. It has long been known that consumption of certain foods can have profound effects on the physical and mental health of susceptible individuals. This is even more evident in today’s world with the huge variety of processed foods we now consume. Although not life threatening, food sesnitivities should never be underestimated as its impact on sufferers can be significant, sometimes affecting their ability to live normal healthy lives. The incidence of food sensitivities is extremely wide and it is estimated that 45% of the population could be affected. Many people with food sensitivities experience more than one symptom. Symptoms can often be vague and the root cause of the problem, food, is not always correctly diagnosed.
Food sensitivities can manifest in a number of ways. Some people will have one symptom such as a severe headache whilst others will be unfortunate to experience irritable bowel syndrome, migraine and skin or respiratory conditions. Realising that your food is a catalyst for
particular symptoms is not easy when, unlike the immediate reactive
symptoms of food allergy, food sensitivity symptoms often appear hours
or even days later. In fact many food sensitivity sufferers have commented
post diagnosis and after having removed their problem foods that they realise they had been experiencing minor symptoms as a result of food sensitivities for their entire lives.

HOW CAN DIETEX HELP ME?
At Dietex, we focus on the elimination of particular foods in order to improve the health and wellbeing of an individual. Our two-step process is designed to treat the body as a whole, tackling the cause, rather than the symptoms, of a problem, an approach which is often overlooked by conventional medicine. Unknowingly, individuals consume food items which they are sensitive to several times a day. This causes inflammation in the body, which lays the foundation for a host of health complaints and diseases. IgG are antibodies produced by an individual’s immune system, causing an inflammatory response against the body’s own tissues.
A growing body of research shows strong correlation between inflammation and a host of auto immune diseases and disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, digestive issues, irritable bowel syndrome, and eczema, to name a few. The major food offenders are also thought to contribute to anxiety, irritability, depression, lack of concentration and lethargy.
There is a bourgeoning body of research demonstrating the importance of reducing inflammation in the body in order to improve overall health and prevent disease. Some individuals report that they have reversed their illness and symptoms by removing foods from their diets that they have shown a sensitivity to.
Being empowered with the knowledge of what foods ones is sensitive to will help a person to make the necessary changes to their diet to begin relieving painful physical and mental symptoms.
Prescription medications may address some of your complaints, but they do not cure or address the undying problem.
People have experienced an increase in energy, reduction of stress, greater concentration and pain reduction. This can all be accomplished with no side effects or the deleterious effects of prescription medication. This convenient, relatively painless test is now available in clinic and it could vastly improve your life.

WHAT TEST IS RIGHT FOR ME?
There are many different ‘tests’ available to diagnose food allergy, intolerances and sensitivities. In fact, some even claim to diagnose two of these conditions with one test, this is simply impossible due to the different biological mechanism involved in each of these conditions. The term food allergy is widely misused and misunderstood by the media and general public. It can be hugely damaging diagnosing someone with an IgE food mediated allergy or an enzyme intolerance when infact they are suffering from an IgG food sensitivity and vice versa, this could lead to serious health issues. It’s also important to remember that food intolerances are due to enzyme deficiencies, and there are very specific tests to diagnose conditions such as lactose intolerance and coeliac disease. If It can be difficult to know which tests are reliable or evidence based and your practitioner should be able to clearly distinguish and explain the difference between these conditions. Here at Dietex, we use an IgG food sensitivity test (FST) which assesses delayed immune responses to food. Our tests do NOT identify IgE mediated food allergies or provide information about coeliac disease, enzyme deficiencies such as lactose, histamine tyrosine or alcohol intolerance. We also do not test for chemical intolerances such as reactions to certain food additives.
Utilizing only a small finger prick blood sample, the test provides visual results in less than 40 minutes and covers the majority of food items consumed in a common diet. The test was designed by
Cambridge Nutritional Sciences Ltd, who are a science and technology company who have developed the world’s first near patient food IgG ELISA test. They have been providing clinical analysis to the general public, clinics, hospitals and health professionals since 1994. Their base at Eden Research Park in Cambridgeshire has been purpose built and holds laboratories that are equipped with the latest technology. They benefit from professional links with a number of specialist institutes in the field of nutrition and food science.
